2020 Annual Report

President’s Message

Dear Friends of Isle of Wight Christian Outreach Program (COP):

COP has responded to the COVID 19 crisis and continues to serve our neighbors in need.

Volunteers greet vehicles outside, wear masks, sanitize often and maintain social distance.  Fortunately, we have not had any volunteer test positive with the virus.

In addition to maintaining all the traditional programs, COP has embarked upon some new initiatives. To insure children have books, the Food for Thought Program is placing Little Lending Libraries containing children’s books, in our Isle of Wight communities. The diaper program has expanded to include adult diapers.

The dental program doubled in 2020. Poor dental health can destroy the quality of life and is a gateway for disease. Last year COP clients had 192 tooth extractions, 48 partial or full dentures plus numerous cleanings and other procedures.

COP has budgeted 2021 expenses of $329,000. This does not include donations of food, diapers, books or volunteer hours. If those items were included, our budget would be well over $600,000. Administrative expenses are budgeted at $25,000.

Owen (Rick) Rowlands will be the new Executive Director of COP effective April 1st. Rick and his wife Cheryl live in Smithfield. He is a retired Air force officer and has been volunteering at COP for over a year. We are grateful that Rick has agreed to step forward and serve as Executive Director.

And, yes, we need your financial support. With it, COP can continue to fulfill our mission statement: “To help the poor, the needy, and the sick in Isle of Wight County.” Please use the enclosed envelope to mail your check or donate online at our website: iowcop.net.

On behalf of the Board of Directors and volunteers of COP, thank you.

John Graham, Executive Director
Wayne Willis, Board Chairman
